Marilyn's Life From East to West

My Life- About to Start the Next Chapter

My name is Marilyn and I am a senior public relations major at Georgia Southern University.  I love college but am also really excited to get out in the working world and hopefully end up with a great career.  I hope to move to Los Angeles, California and work for entertainment media, such as television, radio, film companies, or PR firms that relate to any of those.  I am also very interested in special events planning.  I have always wanted to be in the entertainment industry so I hope to make a difference in whatever I do.

I know finding a job/internship is not all about what the company can do for me… but what I can do for them.  I want to be able to really improve a company and make an impact on what they do.  Hard work and a good attitude are two things I hope will get me there.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia right now with my mom and sister Kate (who is a freshman at Vanderbilt).  I have lived there all of my life and absolutely love it, but I do want a change at least for a few years.  I have 2 cats, Elroy and Dixie, and two dogs, Lola and Riley (Riley is mine!)  I got Riley from the Atlanta Humane Society last July and she is my little gift from God, I am obsessed with her.

At GSU I am a part of Phi Mu sorority and it has been a big part of my college life and will be after I leave.  The friends I have made are amazing and will be a part of my life after college.  We do a lot of work with Children’s Miracle Network and the Marie Backus Children’s Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga.

I am also a part of PRSSA at GSU and went to the national conference in San Diego this year… which was amazing.  My favorite seminars were entertainment PR (obviously) and event planning.  I never realized all of the work that goes into television.  The lady who came and spoke to us from ABC said that they really do a lot when it comes to damage control (i.e. the “gay” controversy on Grey’s Anatomy among a few cast members).  They have to make sure that the relationships among cast members and cast-to-audience are positive otherwise it’s a bad situation for all parties.

I am also a volunteer (trying to become more involved) with the Atlanta Humane Society.  I was supposed to go to the volunteer orientation the day I got back for winter break, but it was canceled!  However, I do like to go up there and give the animals homemade treats… they are so cute I wish I could adopt them all.  I think being involved with an organization or charity is a great way to give back to the community.

Thanks for reading!  Hopefully my life story will only get more interesting…
